Late in May Stumpy Oak provided a Thursday evening ceilidh and disco for Catherine and Samuel’s wedding at Wood Farm, Everdon in Northamptonshire. Located just outside Daventry, Wood Farm is surrounded by rolling countryside – this created a beautiful natural backdrop to our musicians as the balcony window looked out on a stunning sunset. Catherine and Samuel took to the dance floor for their first dance as married couple to a James Arthur song and were then joined by their enthusiastic friends and family for Symphony by Clean Bandit, played over our PA system.

Stumpy Oak ceilidh at Wood Farm Everdon

The first floor, vaulted room was a perfect space for the revelous ceilidh dancing that ensued. We love to start with a simple, large circle dance called Circassian Circle to get everyone on the dance floor and to break the ice for anyone who has never been to a ceilidh or a barn dance before. It’s a great dance that appeals to all ages and a really good one for getting young children involved too – Catherine and Samuel’s daughter joined in some of the dances and she was only 18 months old! During the rest of the ceilidh we mixed simple contemporary dances with some of the old favourites like the Gay Gordons and Cumberland Square Eight. Between dances we played some tunes to give the guests the chance to refill their glasses and take in the beautiful scenery outside, or to just take to the dance floor and freestyle. While we took a break between ceilidh sets, the guests were treated to amazing wood-fired pizzas made on site.

After the ceilidh set our DJ Andy launched into the disco featuring Catherine and Samuel’s favourite songs and the dance floor was packed to the end of the night!
