In September 2019 Stumpy Oak ventured deep into Cambridgeshire Fenland for their first visit to the quirky Bedinghams Farm – in the hamlet of Sutton Gault (near Ely, Cambridgeshire) – bringing their unique combination of high energy ceilidh and disco/DJ set to Hannah & Ben’s wedding day celebrations.
The venue is quite literally in the middle of nowhere, with great views of the surrounding fens (the so-called Ouse Washes) and camping facilities. A converted hoop barn forms the main function space, with various nooks and galleries on mezzanine level overlooking the wooden dance floor and bar.The fact that there are no neighbours in miles means that bands and DJs are not constrained by sound limiters or other noise abatement measures (neither Stumpy Oak or their DJ insist on excessive sound levels, but the bass elements of our music and/or whoops from our excited guests can make venues with sound limiters especially challenging).
We were very warmly welcomed by the staff at Bedinghams Farm and we’re happy to have performed the very first wedding ceilidh in the venue’s four years of operation! The guests seemed to really enjoy it too – the dance floor was busy right through to the end of the disco and ceilidh dances such as Snowball and Lucky Seven proved especially popular with the enthusiastic crowd.
We’re really looking forward to returning next July for another wedding!
